XC880A OWNERS MANUAL
7.4 Printing Labels
The XC880A has the capability of printing barcode labels on one of three
supported label printer families. These include printers using the Datamax
programming language (DPL) as well as both Zebra languages (EPL2 and ZPLII).
It will also drive older Eltron label printers using EPL2.
To print barcode labels, the expansion FLASH memory option is required
to store up to 20 label formats for each printer family. The label formats are
programmed and loaded into the scale at the factory, or they can be ordered, and
downloaded to FLASH memory through one of the serial ports using a special
utility program. Contact Sterling Scale for details on purchasing and downloading
new or modified label formats.
Once a format is downloaded, it can be automatically printed under a part
number, or manually at any time.
7.4.1 Label Data Prompting
The XC880A can be set up to prompt for label data before
printing. To modify this setting, press SHIFT-L and answer NO to the
“SET/CLEAR SUPPLIER?” and “SET/CLEAR SHIP TO?” queries. The
scale will then prompt with “PROMPT LBL DATA” and the current
setting will be displayed. Press the SCALE SELECT key until the desired
setting is displayed. The available settings are as follows:
MISSING DATA: Scale will prompt for any label data not
stored in memory or not previously prompted for.
ALWAYS: The scale will prompt whether or not label data
is present. The previously used, or stored data will be
displayed and may be overwritten or the current data used.
NEVER: The XC880A will not prompt for label data. Any
missing data will result in a blank field on the label.
7.4.2 Label Quantity Prompting
After a data prompting method has been chosen, the XC880A will
prompt with “PROMPT LBL QTY?”. Press ‘1’ or ‘Y’ to cause the scale to
prompt for the label quantity on every print. Press ‘0’ or ‘N’ to bypass the
prompt and use the default label quantity every time.
The XC880A will then prompt for “DEFAULT LBL QTY” with
the current setting displayed. Changing this value will cause the scale to
print the specified number of labels whenever the PRINT key is pressed. If
prompting for the label quantity, this value will be displayed and can be
changed before printing, or the ENTER key can be pressed without
changing the quantity.
